Successful Global IFAWPCA Webinar 2024: Steps and Commitment to Driving Digital Transformation in Infrastructure

Jakarta, 16 May 2024 - Committed to maximizing the rapid advancement of technology, Indonesian Contractors Association (ICA) hosted an interactive webinar titled "Digital Transformation in Infrastructure: Unlocking Universal Applications." The webinar was held in a hybrid format from the Ballroom of HK Tower, East Jakarta, Indonesia, and on Zoom as part of collaboration program among the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors' Associations (IFAWPCA) members.

This webinar successfully connected over 1,300 participants from various professions, including ICA members, government officials, industry stakeholders, technology and information experts, and young professionals from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, and Nepal.
​
To support continued meaningful participation, the 2024 IFAWPCA Webinar was also broadcast for free and achieved over 350 views accessible flexibly via YouTube Sahabat Tama, facilitating shared insights both domestically and internationally. The webinar effectively discussed the critical role of digital transformation in the infrastructure sector and ways to implement universal digital applications to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Collaborating with the HK ExperTalk platform, the webinar featured various speakers, including government representatives such as Wilan Oktavian, S.T., M.P.P.M., Director of Road and Bridge Management Systems and Strategies, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Republic of Indonesia. The event was also ceremoniously opened by Djoko Sarwono, Chairman of the Indonesia Contractors Association, Muhammad Fauzan, Vice Chairman of the Indonesia Contractors Association, and Kenneth Loo, President of IFAWPCA.

This dynamic event included experience-sharing sessions from numerous construction experts, including Ir. Dhono Nugroho, Vice President of Planning and Engineering at PT Hutama Karya (Persero), Yusuf Maharani, SVP Head of Strategic Planning, Engineering & Technology Division of PT PP (Persero) Tbk, and academic representative Prof. Ir. Biemo Woerjanto Soemardi, M.S.E, Ph.D., Professor of Engineering and Construction Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology.

The globally scaled webinar featured toll road practitioners from both domestic and international sectors, including Ng Han Liong, Founder of Hyperlift AI – Singapore, Rafi Aulia, BIM Manager of Sigli Banda Aceh Toll Road at PT Hutama Karya (Persero), Liew ZiQing, Head of Digitalization, Development & Delivery (3D) at Sunway Property – Malaysia, Ernest Wijaya, General Manager at PT. Total Bangun Persada Tbk, Sagar Thorat, Sr. Technical Solutions Executive at Autodesk ASEAN, and Law Eng Khoon the Manager of BIM/Digital Engineering of Gamuda Engineering – Malaysia, who shared their experiences interactively.

In his remarks, Kenneth Loo, President of IFAWPCA, emphasized the importance of digital transformation as a collective commitment to build digital technologies that enhance how we plan, design, and build projects sustainably. “Digital transformation plays a vital role, and this agenda is a joint effort to support international collaboration, create a professional environment for the industry, and become a dynamic platform for collaboration and the exchange of innovative ideas in the construction industry.”

The Director of Road and Bridge Management Systems and Strategies, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, who attended the event in person, emphasized the government's full support for this initiative and encouraged the use of digital technology in every infrastructure project in Indonesia. "We hope that through this webinar, synergy can be created among various stakeholders to develop innovative solutions in construction and infrastructure management, accompanied by the implementation of digital transformation," he said.

The webinar also featured an inclusive Q&A session, with participants present physically in the Ballroom of HK Tower and those attending virtually via Zoom showing enthusiasm in following each discussion session. Besides discussing the main challenges in the administration and implementation of digitalization on the ground, the Q&A session also interactively addressed the application of BIM and the development of digital construction in various projects.
