Mr. Choi Chong-Whan of Korea, IFAWPCA Past President, proposed thru Executive Board Member, Mr. Kim Kie-hyun (CAK), during the 1981 Midterm Board Meeting, the establishment of an IFAWPCA award for construction men on site, and pledged to donate US$20,000.00 for the purpose, US$10,000.00 upon establishment of the award and the balance within 3 to 5 years, conditioned upon IFAWPCA's decision to name more than one awardee per awarding event.  The proposal and the pledge were subsequently confirmed, in writing, by Mr. Choi himself, in a letter, dated 15 October 1981, addressed to Dr. Chaijudh Karnasuta, President of IFAWPCA.  The award was officially established on May 9, 1982 during which the initial $10,000.00 was remitted. Additional donations of US$2,000.00 each were given in 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991 and 1993, thus completing the donation of US$20,000.00.
